Edge Computing with GENI

What is Edge Computing

Edge Computing pushes the frontier of computing applications, data, and services away from centralized nodes to the logical extremes of a network [1]. Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) is a network architecture concept that enables cloud computing capabilities and an IT service environment at the edge of the cellular network [2].

Mobile Edge Computing with GENI

MEC applications require compute, communication and storage resources to be available at a single hop from the mobile edge. The GENI edge computing deployment includes twenty 4G LTE base stations (BS), small data center sized resource (GENI racks) and customizable end user devices that provide a perfect ecosystem to experiment with this new area of research.
